Matt Shakman, the director of WandaVision, will direct the next Star Trek film.

The next film for Paramount Pictures will be directed by WandaVision, Matt Shakman. Shakman, the longtime director of television, has worked on a variety of different TV series, including Throne Game, Philadelphia's Always Sunny and Psych, to mention a few. He recently directed all 9 episodes of the nominated Emmy, WandaVision, for which he was also nominated in a Limited or Anthonology Series or Films.

Since the 2016 Star Trek Beyond Trek at the box office, Paramount Pictures has sought to resuscitate the movie series in Star Trek. The first film, Chris Hemsworth's role in Captain George Kerk was taken away and was to be directed by S.J. Clarkson, was originally announced. Quentin Tarantino has also discussed the development of a new film by Star Trek, but the conversations appear to have gone astray since the director plans to retire.

A Star Trek film, which was later shelved, was written to and directed by Noah Hawley the creative of Legion and Fargo, who went to another science-fi franchise, Alien. Paramount still has Star Trek ambitions and sets the release date for June 9th 2023, seven years after Star Trek Beyond's premiere.

The next star tree film for Paramount Pictures and J.J Abrams' Bad Robot which produced the last three star trek pictures has now been formally signed by Matt Shakman according to the deadline. The script is written by Lindsey Beer (Sierra Burgess Is a Loser) and Geneva Robertson-Dworet (Captain Marvel). There is still no information about whether the cast from the Kelvin era will return to play their part in Stard Trek movies like Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto and Zoe Saldana.

With no words about whether the cast will come, it is doubtful whether this will continue the Star Trek Beyond tale, but that the fourth movie of the rebooted franchise has not been mentioned. Bad Robot's existence as the manufacturing business suggests that this might occur in the Kelvin time line, however, because the different TV programs, such as Star Trek Discovery and Star Trek Picard, which take place in the original series, are not subject to the Bad Robot banner.

This could mean that the Star Trek picture for which Shakman has signed on takes place in the Kelvin timeline, with a completely different cast.

Shakman maintains an interesting trend that Paramount Pictures has made for Star Trek with appointing directors. Like Shakman, formerly attacheed filmmakers S.J. Clarkson and Noah Hawley have a broad history of TV in prestigious TV series.

This is consistent with the franchise's history of being rooted in television, as well as the fact that J.J. Abrams, who launched the modern era of Star Trek and was primarily known as a successful television writer and producer, was the man who started it all. Shakman's experience demonstrates his ability to work on a wide range of projects, and Star Trek can take on many various forms depending on the writer's wishes. Booking the director of an Emmy-nominated series to lead the next Star Trek film is a major coup for Paramount, and after WandaVision, fans should expect something absolutely exceptional.
